Traveling by plane when pregnant: up to what month can you take the plane?

How to tell if you are pregnant: the symptoms and the first steps to take

In the first few months you can still choose distant destinations, but this is strongly discouraged starting from the seventh month. If there are only six weeks left to complete your pregnancy, don't stray too far from your chosen delivery location.

Choose destinations that allow you to avoid overexposure to the sun. Most pregnant women suffer from the heat, because it increases perspiration and promotes the dilation of blood vessels. You have heavy legs and the risk of stretch marks is greater, even with good hydration. On the other hand, the risk of chloasma gravidarum, also known as the "mask of pregnancy", is real.

Do you prefer the sea: swimming is the ideal sport for pregnant women. If you choose an exotic destination, beware of mosquitoes (bring long-sleeved clothes and anti-mosquito products), nutrition (do not eat raw food, wash and peel vegetables, always eat well-cooked meat, drink only bottled and sealed water ). Prefer places where you can go without having to undergo vaccines. Think about getting some rest and, if you take organized trips or sightseeing, choose a light program.

A comfortable journey

The important thing is to travel in optimal conditions, to avoid causing a miscarriage or premature birth.

In the car. You can drive if you feel like it. If not, sit in the back seat instead, with the seat belt fastened above and below your belly. The tired sitting position: it is recommended to stop at least every two hours. Prefer straight and fast roads to winding streets.

On the train. It is ideal. If you are traveling alone, do not carry a lot of luggage.

By plane. It is certainly the most restful and peaceful means of transport. But starting from the seventh month it is strongly not recommended to make long trips. Always carry a medical certificate with you indicating the expected date of delivery. Some pregnant women were not allowed to board the plane for this reason, because the airline did not want to take any risks. Avoid sitting too long. Get up every now and then and walk down the central corridor to encourage circulation. Also think about hydrating yourself: for a 5-hour flight, it is recommended to drink at least one liter of water.

On a boat. Traveling by boat is not forbidden but, on the other hand, it would not be prudent to undertake long cruises at sea, far from any hospital.
