Your son is four months old

Check now that your baby is healthy and that his current weight meets growth standards.

Your baby in the fourth month
It weighs an average of 6.5 kg for 65 cm in length.
He can remain seated if he has a little support and can lift his head and legs when lying on his back. When on his stomach, he keeps his legs straight.
He tries to grasp the objects presented to him and enjoys shaking the rattle vigorously. He stutters when he hears your voice and laughs a lot. If you call him, his head is spinning. He smiles looking at himself in the mirror.
He is sociable and does not like to be left alone for long.
His color vision is almost like that of an adult.
If you are breastfeeding him with formula, switch to follow-on milk, of which he can drink 4 - 5 daily bottles of about 850 ml. Its diet is diversified thanks to gluten-free infant cereals, vegetables and fruit, in rations of 2 - 3 tablespoons for lunch.

Health: vaccines
The fourth month corresponds with the third injection of the Haemophilus influenzae vaccine, and with the vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis and pneumococcus, and possibly hepatitis B. Haemophilus is responsible for meningitis purulent, arthritis, lung disease and other infections difficult to treat with antibiotics.

Nutrition
In addition to follow-on milk, this is the right time to start varying your diet. Gradually begin to introduce only one element at a time and in small quantities. You can start with fish and meat, minced, in one-tablespoon quantities.
For dessert and snack, you can propose some novelties to your child: white cheese, white yogurt, cooked fruit.

The nights
At 4 months, your baby no longer needs a night meal, but it is possible that he has kept the habit and wakes up. To make him go back to sleep, even if he does not need it, often a bottle is needed: perhaps it is better to let him suck his thumb instead of drinking milk. In any case, it is important to make him fall asleep in the best conditions, and not to create agitation around him, even if he cries a lot.

Development
Your child is world champion of stammering, he likes to talk to his games, imitate your tones of voice and your accents ...
Although he is aware of its existence, he is not yet fully aware of the permanence of objects when they are out of his field of vision. To help him progress, you can play games with him, showing him and hiding your face or an object, for example.
