Female sexual disorders

Vaginal dryness

Often transient, it is a real handicap for the sex life. It is a lack of lubrication in the vagina, which makes penetration unpleasant and even painful. Generally due to hormonal imbalances, it can affect girls, but also women during or after pregnancy and, of course, after menopause. But also stress, the intake of certain drugs, overly aggressive intimate hygiene, alcohol or smoking can have consequences on the mucosal lubrication mechanism.

The solutions: to begin with, this discomfort could be alleviated through the use of a water-based lubricant. Subsequently, depending on the case, hormone treatment may also be prescribed. Beware of haste during sexual intercourse: the female body needs time. It is therefore important to give space to foreplay, to increase pleasure and allow the vagina to lubricate itself naturally, thus favoring penetration.

When penetration is painful (dyspareunia)

We speak of dyspareunia when you feel pain, more or less intense, at the moment of penetration. The origin of this pain can be organic (after childbirth, for example), infectious (mycosis, cystitis, herpes, STD ...) or psychological. But this problem may also be due to a still little known phenomenon called vestibulitis: inflammation of the vestibule, that is, the part that is inside the labia minora.

The solutions: these pains, which are particularly penalizing for the couple's sexual life, must first of all be localized (inside or outside the vagina, more or less deep) and identified. In case of infection, antibiotics may be prescribed. Often, over time, the fear of pain can cause fear of sexual intercourse and deeper blockages. Consulting a psychologist, then, will allow you to overcome these fears, finding a satisfactory sexuality.

Vaginismus or denial of penetration

Vaginismus corresponds to an involuntary contraction of the puscules of the perineum and vagina. Even if the genitals are normal (if they react perfectly to arousal and orgasm can be achieved by stimulating the clitoris), the vaginal orifice reflexively closes, preventing any type of penetration. Vaginismus also prevents gynecological visits, as well as the use of tampons.

The solutions: in 90% of cases, the cause of vaginsmus is psychological. It can result from trauma, fear or even a phobia of sexuality, or from a physiological block due to severe dyspareunia. The purpose of the therapy is first of all to stretch the muscles of the vagina; later the woman will try to get back in touch with her body, in order to regain a normal sexual life.

Anorgasmia: when orgasm is desired

There are many women who complain of never having experienced a vaginal orgasm. However, one can speak of total anorgasmia (or absence of orgasm) only in the case of those who have never experienced either vaginal or clitoral orgasms. Anorgasmia can occur at the beginning of sexual life, but it can also affect adult women, and therefore other stages of sexual life. It is a complex disorder that, at times, can be limited to certain situations or partners.

The solutions: like other female sexual disorders, anorgasmia is often of psychological origin. To overcome it, it will therefore be necessary to resort to psychotherapy. Once the origin of the psychic block has been found, the patient will have to develop her own sensitivity and regain possession of certain erotic sensations.

Frigidity or absence of pleasure

Even more painful than anorgasmia, frigidity manifests itself with the total absence of sexual pleasure. It corresponds to a total absence of erotic thoughts, while the body does not react to any stimulus: the genitals do not react to caresses or arousal, the vagina remains dry. Sexual intercourse is experienced as a duty, if not a nuisance, and is practiced with indifference.

The solutions: also in this case, psychological therapy can be able to unblock the situation. The woman will have to understand why she remains insensitive to any form of physical and sexual pleasure and will have to try to regain communication with her partner. The treatment is aimed at making the woman suffering from frigidity discover new sensations (or find those she has forgotten) and learn to let go of these sensations.
