Graphic novel on couple violence

Out for Hop! 7th floor by Asa Grennvall: a graphic novel whose story should be read by all women and men, even those who have never suffered violence. Because violence is not a matter for others, whether it is suffered or inflicted. It is "a possibility that exists within each of us, especially in these years, in which abandonment is something very widespread from which we try to defend ourselves, either by accepting the chain or by tying it around the neck of another person."

Written in 2002, the story seems to anticipate by over a decade an issue, that of violence against women, which has become an emergency in our country in recent years. The student Asa meets Nils, who has all the characteristics of the ideal man: protective, kind, attentive. But he is also very jealous. Little by little the jealousy turns into a delusional one and Nils forces Asa to give up everything, annihilating her identity. Grennvall manages to describe violence within a couple with the right balance between empathy and useful factual analysis. In its apparent simplicity, this book makes the sense of the protagonist's emotional journey towards regaining her self-esteem extremely clear.
