The vegan diet: no to products of animal origin

The vegan or vegan diet is a diet that totally excludes products of animal origin. While in vegetarianism some foods of this origin, such as milk, cheese, eggs and honey are allowed, in the vegan diet they are banned.
More than a dietary model aimed at weight loss or physical fitness, as often happens with "nonconformist" diets, the vegan diet is defined as a "lifestyle". It also profoundly affects other daily habits, such as clothing or consumption in general, and makes use of a series of behaviors or habits useful to avoid any form of cruelty towards the environment and animals.

Health First of all

More and more people are choosing vegan cuisine also for health reasons. Choosing this diet greatly reduces the risks of diseases related to the animal world (avian, mad cow ...) and the intake of harmful substances and hormones administered to animals in breeding processes. The vegan diet is however characterized by the presence of proteins, which are assimilated to an extent that can fluctuate between 5 and 15% by taking cereals and legumes.
In this regard, the American doctor John Mc Dougall proposes a diet inspired by the vegan diet to combat many of the contemporary diseases attributable to incorrect or unbalanced nutrition. It is a low-calorie diet plan with a very high fiber content, characterized by the "contribution of: 75-87% of carbohydrates, 6-15% of proteins (with the biological value compensated by cereals and legumes), 5-10% of lipids ( 0% animal fats; 0% added; 100% intrinsic to plant foods).

The low-fat food plan studied by McDougall consists of meals mainly composed of whole grains (rice, barley, millet, spelled, wholemeal couscous, bulghur), legumes (beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils), starchy vegetables (potatoes ), accompanied by other vegetables. Vegetables can be eaten at will, legumes and cereals in reasonable quantities, so as not to be left with the feeling of hunger. There is no added fat, other than that naturally contained in foods. Weight loss occurs thanks to the balanced choice of foods all very low in fat and rich in fiber, which allows you to keep the amount of calories ingested low and at the same time to have a feeling of satiety and energy. In many cases, the adoption of a vegan diet of this kind has led, in addition to the weight loss of even the very obese, to significant improvements in some diseases.
