Interview / Laura Pausini: "The family is my nest"

by Laura Frigerio

Vent "years ago she made her timid debut on the stage of the Sanremo Festival and is now an international pop star with millions of copies sold. Yet Laura Pausini has remained the same as always: a simple, sweet, spontaneous and chatty girl. And of things to say. she has some, especially now that not only is she about to celebrate her twentieth anniversary (with the collection "20 - Greatest Hits" full of prestigious duets and the relative tour), but she has become the mother of a beautiful little girl named Paola who next February 8 will be one year old.

You are about to celebrate your first 20 years of career. Who do you have to say "thank you" to?
First of all to my parents, who raised me by passing on strong values that have never changed over time. The upbringing that parents give us may seem stiff at times, but it can make you a special person.

Then it was your father Fabrizio who passed on the passion for music to you, right?
Yes, my father played in piano bars and was quite well known in Emilia-Romagna. I still remember my eighth birthday: I went to listen to him in Bologna, together with my mother and my sister. He had prepared a doll for me as a gift, but I just wanted to take his microphone and sing. That's where I started and never stopped. My dream was to sing part-time in piano bars, certainly not to become a famous singer: once a teenager I enrolled in an art school with the intention of enrolling in architecture. Do you think I was even afraid to leave my village. It has always been my father who pushed me to go further: it was he who enrolled me first in Castrocaro and then in Sanremo Famosi ".

It is therefore no coincidence that your parents are in the video for "Se non te" ...
What is being told is their love story, which has lasted for 40 years. My mother, before having me, had three miscarriages and then, when she got pregnant again, she was bedridden throughout her pregnancy. Just then my father was offered to join the Poohs, but he refused to be close to her, and I am convinced that all I have had is the redemption of this sacrifice of hers.

"If not you", however, also speaks of your new family ...
Yes, I wrote it with my partner, thinking of our daughter. With the work I do I always find myself in the midst of many people, but in the end it's just me, my daughter Paola and my partner. home, even if there are no physical walls. One thing that light comes in. This is my new "loneliness".

How has motherhood changed you?
Now I feel more emotional, serene and confident, but above all I am happy. I had wanted to become a mother for many years and I also said it with a song Heavenly, dedicated to all women who have tried the same things that I have tried. I confess: at a certain point I gave up, I thought it was no longer coming and I started to put myself in the optics to make me a reason. Then instead the miracle happened.

And now what do we do with your international commitments?
I have already become a multitasking mom and therefore I have equipped myself to go on tour. But at the moment he will only do 20 dates, mainly in Italy, because I don't know yet how Paola will react to the various moves.
