1. Paul Winchell, the voice of Winnie the Pooh's Tigger, invented an artificial heart.

Winchell was the first to patent an "idea for a mechanical artificial heart. The design was developed further at the University of Utah" and Dr. Robert Jarvik implanted the first successful permanent artificial heart in a human in 1982.
