8.2 magnitude earthquake and tsunami hit Chile

As soon as the earth began to shake, the evacuation alarm went off: thousands of people were in fact removed from the areas closest to the coast. The authorities asked for the preventive evacuation of all the people living along the coast of the country ( which is more than 4 thousand kilometers long).

After about 45 minutes, the first tsunami waves began to arrive - some of them 2 meters high, which poured onto the beaches of some Chilean towns.

The earthquake originated in the Pacific and, according to the findings of the United States Geological Survey, had an epicenter at a depth of 20 kilometers.

For the moment the number of deaths is at least 5, while many more are injured, mainly due to landslides and fires following the earthquake.
