Shungite: what it is and how it is made

Shungite takes its name from the place where the minerals are extracted, namely Lake Shunga (or Onega), in Karelia in northwestern Russia. We are talking about a centuries-old stone, the first traces of which date back to the sixteenth century. The first to have tested and ascertained the benefits was the Czar of Russia of the seventeenth century Peter the Great, who began to use it by drinking and immersing himself in the water that gushed from the shungite rocks and with which he cured some personal ailments. from the properties of this water, he built spas where everyone could take baths to get better and healthier.
Shungite is an opaque black stone, light and similar to coal in some respects. A sedimentary stone composed of a particular form of carbon, in turn organized with a unique molecular composition which is called fullerene. Fullerenes have a large amount of atoms and are composed of numerous sheets, such as graphite. Shungite is the only mineral to possess all these fullerenes, which makes it a unique stone rich in benefits and properties. We can find it in natural form, but also very frequently found in the form of a pyramid, to be placed on the desk or in the rooms that we want to protect. Or in the form of jewels, such as pendants, necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings (you can also find them on amazon) to always carry it next to our body and help the chakras. In short, this natural mineral is very versatile and we can always carry it with us for protection.

Properties and benefits of shungite

As we have seen, shungite is a truly unique stone thanks to the presence of fullerenes. Its composition, in addition to giving it a magnificent and fascinating appearance, also makes it a mineral rich in properties and precious benefits. This stone, in fact, is able to purify negative energies and release them as positive. But in addition to its energetic properties, it is a real all-rounder capable of protecting (it is one of the protective stones par excellence), relieving and purifying. Depending on the way we use it or position it, or the shape we choose with the pyramid or pendant or other jewelry, it can have different effects.
The main benefits of shungite are:

  • stimulates the immune system
  • protects from radiation and electromagnetic waves
  • protects the environment in which it is placed, eliminating negative energies
  • relieves headache
  • gives greater emotional and spiritual stability
  • relieves stress and anxiety
  • helps you sleep peacefully
  • helps rebalance the chakras
  • it purifies the water giving it many beneficial properties

In short, it is really a stone rich in fullerenes and all-doings, which should always be carried with you or strategically positioned according to our needs, for spiritual protection but also for electromagnetic protection.

The shungite water

To better understand how this stone is able to purify water and give it many beneficial properties, we must distinguish shungite into 3 types:

  • Shungite type 1 called crystalline (or elite): it contains a very high quantity of fullerene carbon, about 90-98% of carbon and silicates but it is very rare and therefore very expensive. Although its properties are very precious, it represents less than 1% of shungite production in the world. It is no coincidence that it is also called elite!
  • Type 2 or black shungite: contains about 30% fullerene carbon and between 60-90% carbon and silicates. Black shungite is the one of our interest and is the best product we can find around in terms of value for money.
  • Shungite type 3 or 4: they are found a lot on the market but are those of lower quality, with about 30-50% of carbon and silicates and less than 3% of fullerene carbon, so its properties are really low.

Of course these features need a certification otherwise we risk getting fooled! In short, just like quartz, shungite is also made of various types, the variety of which depends on the composition and the balance between carbon, silicates and fullerenes. While in quartz we have various qualities, from citrine to rose quartz, passing for rock crystal to get to chalcedony.
To purify the water, therefore, we need at least a black shungite, since the crystalline one is inaccessible. Shungite has numerous antioxidant, antibacterial, purifying and catalysing properties so it is also very useful for purifying tap water.
To purify the water it will be necessary to obtain 100gr of stones for each liter of water, make sure that the stones are well cleaned of any dust or soot, deposit the stones on the bottom of a jug, pour the water and leave the stones to act for 48h Then it will be enough to filter the water into a bottle.

Where and how to place the shungite

As we have seen, shungite is a stone rich in properties and benefits, useful for rebalancing some chakras. Based on the benefits we want to obtain, we can choose where and how to place the magic stone. If our goal is to protect ourselves from electromagnetic waves, we could take a shungite pyramid and place it on our desk or next to the computer in order to create the protection we need. To protect us from the electromagnetic waves of the smartphone, however, there is a pendant to be placed on the phone. If, on the other hand, the goal is to protect a room, we could place the pyramid (whose size can vary in proportion to the size of the room) at the entrance or next to where we usually sit. To promote a peaceful sleep, we place the pyramid next to the bed.
If, on the other hand, we want to obtain greater stability, we can use jewels that contain shungite. The most used jewels are bracelets, earrings, rings but also necklaces with pendants to be placed on the chest. Wearing shungite jewelry relieves stress and anxiety, but also helps to give us more energy and vitality. The pendant, in fact, is one of the most frequent choices. There is a pendant with raw shungite but also a pendant with worked shungite. wearing it means always carrying with you, next to your body, the stone of life! The important thing, of course, is that the mineral is natural and has its own certifications.
