Weaning

At what age do we switch from milk to food? What should you start with? Weaning is a very delicate moment that concerns the first months of the baby's life. It is not easy, especially for first-time mothers, to deal with this very important step with which the newborn begins to become familiar with real foods. So here is a small guide to know the right steps to be respected in this delicate phase of the baby's growth.

You can start adding a few tablespoons of cereal, especially if gluten-free, to her evening bottle.

Five months: we move on to the spoon

You can start giving your baby one or two tablespoons of pureed fruit, and then vegetables, either in the bottle or with the spoon. At the beginning, do not introduce more than one new food per day, so as to be able to identify a "possible allergy."

To start with, choose foods with a simple taste: apple, pear, banana, carrot (very useful in case of diarrhea), zucchini, green beans. Then move on to plums, peaches, apricots, potatoes, beets, broccoli, fennel (very easy to digest).

Six months: the beginning of the taste adventure

Your baby starts sitting up and puts everything in his mouth. It's time to replace the midday feed with a real sit-down meal. It is a big news: the introduction of a daily portion of 20 grams of meat, and then of fish. Mix them, lean with vegetables: chicken, turkey, veal, cod, sea bass, sole.

Nine months: start chewing

You need to be patient if your baby resists starting to chew small bites - he'll do it for a few meals, but then he'll get used to it. It is also the time to start eating raw vegetables, yogurt, bread and starchy foods (pasta, rice).

One year: now he eats like an adult

A year has passed. Your baby can now take part in family meals. Offer to eat the same thing as you do, however, making it easier for him: crush what he has on his plate, or cut it into small pieces. Ditch the follow-on milk and switch to a semi-skimmed milk.

Valuable advice

- Add olive or sunflower oil to what you cook. They will contribute to the development of the baby's brain.

- Go easy on animal proteins: no more than once a day and in small quantities.

- Do not confuse yogurt with milk-based desserts. The latter contain a lot of lipids and little calcium.

- Make him eat only fresh produce.

- Milk, milk and more milk: from 700 ml to 500 ml, at least up to the age of four.

- Make him drink a lot.

If you or your partner have or have suffered from allergies, be especially careful:

- In the first year avoid: peppers, leafy cabbage, turnips, leeks, eggs (egg white and yolk), fish.

- Before the age of three, avoid: exotic fruits and seafood.

- If possible, give your milk for up to 9 months.
