The interpretation of dreams

Dreams and sleep

Dreams have always been the subject of study. Over the course of a night, they multiply: the events experienced during the day appear at the beginning of sleep, but it is during the so-called "paradoxical" phase that the dream that most reveals the emotional state will appear, leaving a mark on the soul.

Dreams can reveal information about the dreamer's desires and even unknown psychic realities. Dreaming of something that goes against what you consciously want can reveal a dormant desire, which certain moral pressures force you to put aside. Interpreting a dream means translating. Subsequently, it will be easier to remedy certain inconsistencies and contradictions that characterize real life.

The main approaches to the dream

We have to wait for the advent of psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud, during the 1900s, for the methods of interpreting dreams to be born. Freud, who considers the dream as the hallucinated realization of an unconscious desire, thinks that it cannot be interpreted spontaneously. To decode it, it is necessary to dissociate its elements, and then analyze them through the associative method, taking into consideration the personal environment of the dreamer. For Carl Gustav Jung, the approach must be slightly different: since man is guided by a collective unconscious, the symbolic messages contained in dreams should be the same for everyone, as if it were a universal language.

The meaning of the most recurring dreams

The interpretation of dreams varies according to the experience of each one. However, here are some significant elements:

- Dreaming of falling teeth can correspond to a strong emotionality, a sign of strong self-control that would prevent the dreamer from affirming his own personality.

- Being naked in public concerns the social sphere more than the sexual one. It can be associated with the importance given to the gaze of others, a lack of self-confidence and a sense of diversity.

- Many people dream of walking or running without moving forward. This can translate the difficulty in reaching a goal, making choices or, again, a lack of independence.

- Flying would correspond to the desire to free oneself from constraints and the need for emancipation.

- Falling into the void or from a ladder can reveal an emotional void or fear of the future.

- Dreaming of being chased can mean being afraid of the future or fearing a particular person.

- Dreaming of not passing an exam can indicate a simple lack of self-confidence.

- Dreaming of death, in all its forms, is mostly to be associated with a rebirth, a new beginning.

Do recurring dreams have a meaning?

In most cases, recurring dreams are the signal of a temporary crisis or a block linked to daily life (professional difficulties, love breakups, bereavement). This type of dreams mostly disappears once the crisis is over.

How to interpret erotic dreams?

These dreams are a symptom of good health. There are two types: erotic dreams of encounters, flirts or kisses translate into inner well-being and a harmonious relationship with others. If, on the contrary, the erotic dream is more "pushed" (sexual intercourse), it could indicate a lack, or be the signal of an unsatisfied libido. Often the dreamer wants more frequent or better quality intercourse.

And the premonitory dreams?

Studies have shown that 60% of premonitions occur in dreams. However, many specialists remain skeptical of their credibility. Some of them see premonitions as a simple need to project a wish into reality, others think it is more of a coincidence.
