Kebab: the most popular ethnic food

But you know, we Italians are experimenters and lovers of novelty, as well as gourmets, and we certainly do not disdain to taste new foods with the flavor of distant lands.

So in recent years there has been a full bloom of sushi restaurants, Indians, Greek taverns, Thai, Brazilian, Mexican, in addition to the now classic Chinese.

But do you know which ethnic food is most appreciated in Italy? The döner kebab, that is the well-known walking kebab sandwich.

In Italy there are 1,135 individual firms and companies that explicitly declared that they sell this tasty dish of Asian origin based on meat, sauce (tzatziki and harissa the most used) and spices wrapped in the typical piadina or Arab bread.

But be careful to abuse it: a recent British investigation by the Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services accuses the Kebab of being a real calorie bomb. The results showed that an average portion of kebab offers more than 1000 calories, contains 98% of the recommended daily amount of salt and 148% of the recommended limit of saturated fat. Furthermore, of the 494 kebabs analyzed, 35% of the sandwiches contained meat other than those declared.

Kebab therefore to be appreciated and tasted yes - even as a quick take away - but with great moderation.
