How to choose and apply the gloss

Born in the 70s, the gloss (or lip gloss) was a great novelty in the field of make-up. It is a lipstick that dresses your mouth with a neutral or slightly colored shine. At first it was dense, sticky and uncomfortable.

Today it can even be treating, being often equipped with a protection factor. It makes the mouth plump thanks to a concentrate of light-reflecting particles and mother-of-pearl elements. The new glosses are lighter and hardly stick anymore.

The new delicious fragrances, fruity, sweet, sparkling, which moisturize and make the lips shine.

The cons

Although the new formulas are long-lasting and can last longer, the gloss does not last long and must be reapplied regularly. But this gesture soon becomes a pleasant habit.

How to apply it

Here is the golden rule: have smooth lips, so that they slide well. Do a simple lip scrub before putting it on. Apply a little moisturizer and rub it lightly with a paper tissue; or buy a specific scrub for the lips. This gesture will eliminate dead cells and cuticles.

Choose the color according to your complexion ...

- If you have amber skin or if you are tanned, opt for shades of orange, apricot and coral.

- If you have fair skin, choose rather soft colors such as peach, pale pink, beige.

… And to your style

- For your natural look, choose a clear gloss

- For a vintage look, dare a fuchsia pink and apply it in several layers

- For an evening look, treat yourself to a super bright glittery gloss

- For a glamorous look, mix bright pink and mauve

- For a fashion look, apply a hot pink gloss to the upper lip and an orange one to the lower lip.

How to make it last longer?

Before applying the gloss, color your lips with a pencil starting from the outline and going towards the center: in this way the colored base remains even when the lip gloss is gone. Reapply the gloss from time to time to renew its shine. Or, put on a matte or satin lipstick before applying a neutral gloss - so as not to change the shade - or fruity, to give your lips an acidic look.

If you have thin lips

You can make up them by drawing a lip contour with a pencil of their same color, on the outside, to make them bigger. Then, increase the volume by applying a slightly pearly gloss and insisting on the center of the lips.

If you have plump lips

Almost everything is allowed. The discreet glosses will enhance them, the fruity one will make them mischievous, the brighter ones will make them sexy.

Follow our advice

If you use gloss, avoid bright make-up on the eyes and cheekbones. The effect would be excessive! You could indulge in it in the evening, but not during the day. Instead, choose to create a contrast between a matte look and a very shiny mouth.
