The first genderless child: neither boy nor girl
A story that is incredible and opens up space for a new discussion on gender just as the news of Angelina Jolie's daughter did, which was later denied. It happens in Canada, where Searyl Alti received her health card which, under the heading "sex "bears a" U "for undetermined, undetermined.
The request comes directly from the parent, Kory Doty, who does not recognize her gender identity as exclusively male or female. A complicated and rather delicate choice, but one that perhaps will allow the child not to suffer the social pressures of identification in one gender or another.
Doty gave birth to Searyl in November and immediately expressed a desire that no government documents would identify her gender. Doty stated that her choice is in the child's total interest and that her goal is "change the way we are identified, starting with the birth certificate."
The gender issue always generates many debates and opinions are conflicting, but one thing is certain: gender identity is clarified a few years after birth and, precisely for this reason, Doty wants Searyl to decide who to identify with. After all, how many painful stories have we heard of those who, assigned to a gender at birth, embarked on a really painful path to arrive only after a long time at self-acceptance or a change of sex?
