Jennifer's fight against breast cancer, in poignant photos of her husband

"The first time I saw Jennifer I knew, I knew she was the woman of my life." Thus begins the story of Angelo Merendino, a photographer from Cleveland who moves to New York for the love of a woman. "I knelt in our favorite Italian restaurant and asked her to marry me. After less than a year we got married in Central Park."

"Five months later, Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer." Since then, Angelo says, "our life has never been the same, but we have faced everything together, and with each new obstacle we became stronger". During Jennifer's fight against cancer, Angelo photographed his wife and the obstacles she faced: hair loss, chemotherapy, pain, hospitals, fears. He did it to show the human side of cancer, its reality, without stopping at nothing. "Often people do not want to face this reality", he says, "and I hope these photos help others to understand cancer patients, to listen to them more, to be close to them with courage and love".

The photos of Jennifer and Angelo show almost crudely the face of the disease, but they also show the cure, the love that binds two people in the face of something bigger and more frightening.
