What's this?

The filler is an aesthetic medicine treatment aimed at correcting blemishes affecting the lips. It is a non-invasive procedure to be used if you want to give volume to thin lips, you can decide to treat even just a single lip, lift the corners and counteract the small wrinkles that, with aging, usually appear on the contour. lips, reshaping their contours. In addition, the filler is able to moisturize the skin of the lips and restore their elasticity. In recent years, more and more people have decided to resort to lip fillers to improve the features of their face, without distorting them. However, it should be noted that, when it comes to fillers, a distinction must be made between three main types, such as:

  • Organic fillers: they are the most delicate variant as they are based on natural substances such as hyaluronic acid and collagen. The advantage of this filler is the fact that it is gradually reabsorbed by the skin and, therefore, the effects, whose duration can reach a maximum of 6 months, are only temporary.
  • Semi-permanent fillers: this filler is based on a particular combination of natural and synthetic substances. Also in this case, it is an aesthetic treatment that has no permanent effects since the skin of the lips will be able to gradually reabsorb the contents. Its duration ranges from 12 to 36 months.
  • Permanent fillers: this type of filler is certainly the most invasive since the synthetic ingredients of which it is composed are not assimilable by the lips and therefore the result lasts over time. However, the patient who undergoes this specific treatment may experience any side effects or allergic reactions even after some time from the operation.

In most cases, a hyaluronic acid-based filler is used as it is safer and more effective.

How does the lip filler work?

The procedure with which the filler is injected into the lips is very simple, but the administration must always be carried out only by a trained doctor and within authorized centers. The specialist in aesthetic medicine will first of all take care to apply anesthetic cream on the affected area half an hour before the treatment, after which he will proceed with the injection through the use of extremely thin needle syringes. Using the lip filler is certainly not painful, but it can cause some discomfort, even if completely tolerable. As for the type and quantity of fillers, the doctor will decide based on the condition of the patient's mouth and the desired result. Sometimes, it is necessary to repeat the session to obtain the desired outcome. Furthermore, if the final effect is not satisfactory, the patient can ask the doctor to dissolve the filler by injecting a particular enzyme better known as hyaluronidase. Following the procedure, the doctor soothes the red area with antibiotic cream and possibly placing ice. Initially, the lips may appear much more swollen than they will be after a few days after surgery.

Lip fillers before and after: what is the result?

As we pointed out at the beginning, the lip filler is not an invasive treatment therefore, after the surgery, a period of hospitalization is not required, on the contrary, patients can return immediately to their home and fully resume daily life. Obviously, in the days immediately following the procedure, it is advisable to avoid undergoing facial treatments such as massages, which could compromise its effectiveness. In general, the final results of the filler are visible within a few hours, accompanied by any redness or small swelling. The mouth will have acquired new volume, the wrinkles will be attenuated and the lower and upper lips will be immediately more turgid and young. Overall, the effect is quite natural because, while altering the lip contour, this aesthetic treatment does not compromise in any way the facial features.

Contraindications and side effects

An aesthetic medicine treatment such as lip filler is contraindicated only in certain conditions, such as: pregnancy, breastfeeding, hypersensitivity and autoimmune diseases. However, before finally deciding to undergo it, it is advisable to discuss with a doctor and evaluate if your clinical picture is compatible with this procedure. Only after obtaining the consent of the healthcare staff, will it be possible to proceed. For example, in most cases, to avoid the onset of allergic reactions, patients undergo some preliminary intradermal tests, having small doses of filler injected into the forearm, to study how the skin reacts to the treatment. In general, the side effects due to the injection of fillers can be: bruises, bruises, swelling, redness, all conditions for which there is no need to be alarmed and destined to disappear on their own within a few days. Only more rarely, the filler can generate more serious consequences such as allergic reactions and local necrosis, or the death of the tissue in the affected area. As we also pointed out at the beginning of this article, the best choice falls on fillers based on hyaluronic acid or collagen, components already present within the human body and therefore safer. On the contrary, the synthetic substances of which the permanent fillers are composed can give rise to skin reactions, inflammation, bacterial infections, abscesses and fibrosis.

Cost

The cost of the lip filler is certainly not negligible. Usually it varies from 250 to 600/800 euros. Obviously, the more sessions, the higher the final price will be. The advice we feel we can give you is to be absolutely wary of too low prices, because this implies that the treatment is unsafe and of poor quality. If you want to make serious use of lip fillers and not incur serious consequences for your health, all you have to do is contact medical specialists who work exclusively within compliant structures. After all, it is your face that you are talking about and making sure it is not disfigured cannot and should not have a price.
