Psoriasis: causes and remedies

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, not infectious or contagious, usually psychosomatic in nature, which can arise at any age.
In Italy it affects about two and a half million people and generally occurs in the form of red patches, covered with whitish scales often accompanied by burning and itching and located mainly in the knees, in the sacral region, in the elbows, in the hands, in the feet and in the scalp.

Psoriasis: the causes
The triggering factors can be many, it is therefore not possible to determine with certainty a "single cause of origin even if, in most cases, the genetic component and stress play a primary role.
However, the genetic predisposition is not capable of causing psoriasis by itself; for the disease to manifest itself, other factors must necessarily intervene, such as intense psycho-physical stress.
Smoking is an additional risk factor especially in some forms of psoriasis and alcohol, a powerful vasodilator, can trigger or aggravate the disease.

Psoriasis: the treatments
There are many and diversified treatments available, but it is not possible to establish a priori the effectiveness of one rather than another, also because what could be useful in one case could be ineffective in another. Only a correct and thorough diagnostic examination can therefore establish the most effective remedy.
