Menstruation does not come: some possible causes of the delay

A regular cycle has a time interval of 30 days between the date of the start of the previous menstruation to the day before the next, but even if you have some slight advance or a delay of a couple of days, you are back to normal. The causes can be various and not always relevant, unless you suffer from some known pathology or you think you are pregnant. Gaining or losing weight too quickly can also stop menstruation, as if the body wants to warn that it is not in a position to ovulate. A delayed or skipped period can result from a polycystic ovary with hormonal problems that make ovulation difficult. If cycle delays are quite frequent, they may be due to a malfunction of the thyroid, which also regulates the development of sex hormones. Sometimes they could also involve the use of certain drugs or natural supplements. The menstrual mechanism of the cycle is not only influenced by the sexual organs of the woman, but involves in addition to other areas of the brain also the pituitary gland that produces the hormone ACTH. If this hormone is present in high quantities, it raises the level of cortisol, also called the stress hormone. Therefore, if there are no other symptoms of pathologies of the ovaries or uterus or an ongoing pregnancy, the menstrual delay could be caused precisely by a strong stress, which is a sometimes underestimated cause of blocking of the cycle and which is very harmful to the well-being of both body and mind. Against stress we recommend lemon balm, bitter orange and passionflower, also contained in tablets soluble in the mouth, which, being absolutely not psychotropic drugs, do not require a medical prescription. If you are a few days late, therefore, do not get too anxious, try to distract your attention from the problem, eat foods that can promote the unblocking of the cycle, enjoy the herbalist recommended herbal teas, exercise and bathe hot, but above all find a way to relax, as stress could affect your delayed period more than you think. If you can't not get stressed out, go to a gynecology specialist, who will be able to diagnose exactly the cause of the delay, and maybe, if after the visit you feel more reassured, you can solve the problem even more easily.

Family remedies: hot showers and baths, foot baths, physical activity and abdominals

One of the home remedies, handed down from grandmother to mom and mother to daughter, is easy to put into practice and has no side effects. It is based on heat, which by acting as a vasodilator promotes blood flow. Therefore, this method considers the famous hot water bag functional, which must be held on the stomach several times during the day, and showers and baths in the tub at a fairly high temperature. Even when menstruation arrives, the hot water bottle is needed, because it significantly reduces cramps and abdominal pain. A quicker but rather effective method of soaking your feet in hot water, to which rosemary oil can be added. This method is not just a popular belief, as it equally affects vasodilation and according to the dictates of foot reflexology it could expand its action throughout the body, facilitating the onset of menstruation.
Physical activity also serves to unblock the cycle, as, especially aerobics, but also a bit of running or a brisk walk can have a significant impact, favoring the outflow of menstrual blood. A little physical activity not only promotes blood circulation, but raises the metabolism. The exercises on the abdominals are particularly suitable, as they manage not only to improve the biorhythm, but also the blood circulation in the uterus area. The movement, then, will also cushion the menstrual pain, once the blood flow has arrived. Amenorrhea, on the other hand, is the lack of menstruation, which occurs in puberty, pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause, and in these cases it is physiological. Outside these periods of a woman's life, it becomes pathological, probably due to diseases of the genital system, hormonal problems, severe stress or psychological trauma.

There is a primary amenorrhea, when puberty does not have menstruation, and a secondary one, when the lack occurs after years of regular cycle. Hypothalamic amenorrhea not of organic origin is due to a deficiency of gonadotropins in the hypothalamus and is a response of the woman's body to stress.
