Mulheres: when drawings become a means to tell about diversity and promote personal freedom

C "is Sarah, a transgender who felt disrespect in a public bathroom; Samantha, who on her son's 3rd birthday was told by an aunt that maybe her hair color had run out of time; Jessica, from always thin, who felt at fault when hearing the phrase "real men love curves", and then there is Alina, who is bisexual but everyone tells her that she is just confused. And there are Lorena, Ana, Babi, Bela, Manu, Fernanda, Whitney.

But these are just some of the stories told by Carol, whose Mulheres / The Women Project started without any pretense, mainly to train the hand with pencil drawing.

When I found myself looking for a major theme, I chose something that was close to me personally. This constant attempt by society to control women's bodies, as well as their behavior and identities, has always bothered me. This type of control is so ingrained in our society that we often don't even realize how cruel it is and above all how limiting it is to personal choices. However, speaking only of a series of problems that concern a close circle of people is not enough. Issues such as racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia and discrimination against the disabled must also be touched upon.

The struggle for equality and respect is vast and should include any kind of racism. Not all situations I illustrate in my drawings are necessarily feminine. Many can be experienced by anyone, regardless of age, gender or gender. ethnicity, for this reason I invite anyone to identify themselves in. The choice to draw women is due to my personal identification.
