Undercover Colors: nail polish is coming to defend against sexual violence?

Thanks to a group of students from the University of North Carolina, the world of make-up is about to experience a real revolution. The team, made up of four young undergraduates, has studied and developed a nail polish that changes color once they enter contact with the so-called rape drugs: Rohypnol and GHB, colorless, odorless and tasteless substances.

Any woman who wears this nail polish, called Undercover Colors, will be able to find out if an unwelcome and dangerous ingredient has been added to the cocktail she was offered. To find out, just dip a finger inside the drink and see the reaction of the nail polish. .

In America, 18% of women have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. They are our daughters, our girlfriends and our friends. Our intent is to develop technologies that allow women to protect themselves from this hateful and silently rampant crime.

It seems absurd, in 2014, to talk about rape drugs and the like, but sexual violence is more common than one might think and too often kept silent. We hope this nail polish will be commercialized as soon as possible.
