Taylor Swift becomes a man, but she does it for a good cause

It has been out for less than a day and has already grinded more than ten million views, we are talking about the video for "The Man", the latest single by Taylor Swift, taken from the album "Lover", released on August 23, 2019. And we can confirm it for the umpteenth time: Miss Americana doesn't miss one. The video, directed by Taylor herself, together with the single, is a real hymn to feminism, "the most important movement that can be embraced because it is basically just another word for equality", as she has repeatedly stated the pop star.

A complaint against gender discrimination

A career man is an established man, a career woman, on the other hand, is greedy and domineering. A man who expresses his feelings is sensitive, a woman is branded as complaining. A man who has many women is automatically a Latin lover, a woman with many men, well, a bad guy. And the list could go on indefinitely, unfortunately. So Taylor says she is tired, “tired of having to run as fast as she can, wondering if, if she were a man, she would reach the finish line more easily”.

The singer's frustration is probably due to the treatments that have been reserved for her during her career, from the media obsession with her love life to the aesthetic aspect, all at the expense of her music, just because she is a woman. On the contrary, however, everything is allowed to man and man is recognized as an artist, not material to be placed on the front cover of tabloid magazines.

She herself has repeatedly had to clash with men very similar to the protagonist of her video. One of all, Scooter Braun, the owner of her old record company, Big Machine Records, who, in 2019, had denied her the rights to her first singles, in a very childish and inelegant revenge design.

In the end, the twist!

But, returning to the video clip, we discover that the real gem is on the finish. The man is just an actor directed by Taylor who, as a director, limits himself to commenting on his interpretation from an aesthetic point of view, inviting him to take a sexier attitude. Thus we are witnessing a reversal of the stereotypical situation, for which it is women, usually, who receive these sexist indications from the directors.

On the credits, finally, the twist that leaves everyone speechless: the protagonist of the video is none other than Taylor Swift herself, after an intensive hair and make-up session. Applause, applause and more applause!
