Strabismus of Venus: a flaw full of charm

We are increasingly inclined to think that beauty and perfection are two identical concepts. In fact, quite often the opposite is proven. There are small defects in the body, more or less visible, which do not make us less beautiful, but, on the contrary, become a particularity that distinguishes us and our strength. In all circumstances, feeling good about yourself is the first step to feeling satisfied and happy.

An aesthetic defect that has been talked about a lot in recent years is the so-called strabismus of Venus, a slight deviation of one eye with respect to the other that is able to make a person's gaze even more bewitching.

What is Venus squint?

The evocative name of this eye defect derives from the Greek goddess painted by Botticelli in one of his most famous paintings, The birth of Venus. In her work it can be seen how the patroness par excellence of beauty and love presents the lack of alignment between the visual axes of the two eyes. All this leads her to have one eye turned outwards with respect to the other.

Venus squint can have different degrees of severity. In most cases, it occurs in a mild form, so much so that it is only noticed in some moments, especially in those marked by fatigue. Unlike the name, this form of squint is not only female, but men can also show it. However, in recent years, we are trying to underline how this ocular deviation can be a factor of pride, so much so that many women decide to highlight it with eyeliner or other make-up that focus everything on the eyes and gaze.

The causes: what is behind Venus' squint

As already mentioned, Venus squint can occur in different forms, from the mildest ones, which are barely noticed, to the most severe ones. The causes behind the deviation of the ocular axes are many and vary from case to case. First, what you need to pay attention to is whether the misalignment of the eyes is evident as a child or if it was developed in adulthood.

The main causes of Venus strabismus in adults are:

  • Infections
  • Eye diseases, such as cataracts
  • Head trauma
  • Nervous system disorders
  • Damage to eye muscles

If, on the other hand, this defect is already present in childhood, then it may be due to:

  • Premature birth
  • Astigmatism
  • Myopia
  • Hyperopia
  • Congenital disorder
  • Eye muscle abnormality

To have a certain answer on what causes Venus squint it is necessary to consult a doctor to obtain an opinion from an expert.

Symptoms of Venus Strabismus

Just like the causes, the symptoms of Venus strabismus also depend almost entirely on its severity. In milder cases, this conformation of the visual axes remains purely an aesthetic defect, not even so evident except at certain moments. If, on the other hand, it is in more severe form it can lead to various visual and physical disturbances.

  • Headache
  • Diplopia, or double vision
  • Lack of depth and visual distances
  • Dizziness
  • Eye fatigue
  • Tiredness

Moreover, precisely that imperfect alignment of the eyes added an even more sensual and mysterious touch to her already attractive aura.

Cures and remedies for Venus strabismus

Since in most cases it is a purely aesthetic eye problem, Venus squint is usually not corrected, either through surgery or in any other way. On the other hand, what a doctor may decide to intervene on are some symptoms that can occur due to this ocular misalignment. It is above all about treating myopia or astigmatism which could then lead to a total resolution of the problem.

In the case of strabismus in childhood, however, there is a tendency to immediately treat any form of deviation of the eyes to avoid the development of various pathologies of vision and, above all, to prevent the amblyopia becoming permanent and decidedly pronounced. This is the phenomenon of the so-called "lazy eye", precisely because one eye works less than the other, which is therefore under strain.
