Sex: myths and legends. What is true and what is false?

We always hear a lot about sex: false myths, metropolitan legends, rumors with a grain of truth. A group of researchers has decided to shed some light and to reveal what scientific evidence there are - if any - at the basis of certain beliefs related to sex.

Try to guess what is true and what is not.

1 - Are the measurements of the genital organs related to the measurements of the feet?

TRUE and FALSE
The belief has some scientific roots. A gene called the Hox gene plays a role - but it is not clear which one - in the development of fingers and toes and also in the development of the penis and clitoris. In fact, there is no evidence that men with large feet have larger sex organs. The results are always mixed.

2 - Does sex help you lose weight?

FALSE
Sex is only considered a "mild to moderate intensity" physical activity because the average sexual encounter lasts about five minutes. The calories lost are pretty negligible unless you have real marathons under the sheets.

3 - Are oysters aphrodisiacs?

FALSE
Oysters contain zinc which is useful for having healthy spermatozoa, but otherwise there is no food that brings excitement. The myth was born simply because Aphrodite, the goddess of love, emerged from the waters on an oyster shell.

4 - Is it true that men always think about sex?

TRUE and FALSE
It is believed that men think about sex every seven seconds, but that would mean more than 6,000 times a day and this is hardly credible ... A large study on the subject was published in 1994 and showed that more than half of men thought about sex every day or several times a day, against only 19 per cent of women, so they certainly think more about it than we do, but not always.

5 - Is sex bad for heart patients?

FALSE
The chance of having a heart attack during sex is very low, considering that the physical effort of a normal sexual performance is similar to that required to climb two flights of stairs ...

6 - Do spermatozoa decrease with age?

TRUE and FALSE
It is thought that the testicles, as we age, produce less sperm or slow sperm, in fact it is true that the small tubes where sperm are produced start to degenerate and that there may be some weakening of the skin of the scrotal sac. It is also proven that the smooth muscle that controls movement continues to function throughout life.
