Grandma's advice:
Thyme: this herb, if taken early, can relieve colds or early flu symptoms. Drink it in the form of tea, herbal tea or syrup.
Turnips or onions: cut into thin slices of onions or turnips, wash them and available in the bottom of a colander. Cover the first layer with sugar, and continue in layers until you run out of turnips / onions.
