DIY anti-cellulite massage: here's how to do it

The Californian massage appeared in the early 1970s in California, near San Francisco. Its birth took place in the context of the development, in the United States, of a series of therapies that preached the liberation of the body, the expression of feelings and the overall balance of the person. Massages, in fact, were associated with group therapies. It is precisely in this new age context that the Californian massage technique gradually developed and became professionalized, before becoming popular and spreading throughout the world, during the 1980s.

The ritual

The Californian massage, extremely sensual, is practiced on bare skin or, at most, covered with underwear. The masseur uses an oil that makes gestures smoother, usually perfumed and relaxing essential oils. His technique consists in wrapping and shaping the body as a whole, alternating fluid, light or deeper movements, which are concentrated mostly on the surface of the skin. These are slow, sweet and sweeping gestures: it is as if the hands were performing a harmonious choreography on the body. This, however, does not prevent the masseur from following and respecting the meridian lines, the reflex points and the muscular path of the body.

The benefits

The Californian massage is aimed above all at those looking for a moment of true relaxation, for those who want to abandon themselves and regain harmony with their body. Thanks to its sweetness, which awakens the senses, this type of massage promotes relaxation that is especially beneficial to stressed and over-tired people.
