Mother's Day 2021

There is no fixed date for Mother's Day, because just like Easter, this anniversary changes day from year to year. How to remember it? Just keep in mind that the day dedicated to mothers is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. In 2021, Mother's Day occurs on May 9, a day of full spring in which it is hoped that the temperatures are mild and that we can be with the family.

In some countries of the world this date does not coincide with ours, because each country has its own tradition. For example, in France Mother's Day falls on the last Sunday of May (for 2021 it is therefore May 30), while in Norway it is even celebrated in winter, in February, and in Argentina in autumn, in October.

How is it possible to celebrate one's mother in the best way? With DIY jobs of course!

Colorful card with paper flowers

The personalized greeting card is a very personal idea that Mom is sure to love!
It is a chore that we recommend you do with children who are already in school: they already know how to handle all the materials and accessories for cutting, writing and decorating.

What will you need to make it happen?

  • colored cards 50x18cm
  • glue
  • pliers
  • round tip scissors
  • colored ribbon
  • paper punch

Preparation

1. Take the first sheet and place it vertically. Shape it into an envelope, i.e. fold it into three parts.
2. Raise the lower wing towards the center and then the upper one towards the middle.
3. Turn the sheet horizontally so that the two folded parts meet in the center.
4. With the pliers, make two holes more or less at a central height: one at each end of the two edges.
5. Take another card (better green because you are going to make the flower stem) and cut out 4 or 5 strips about 7-8cm high. Using the glue stick, attach the flower stems to the inside of the card.
6. Cut out a rectangle on a white sheet, smaller than the inside of the card, and glue it (you can also stick it partly on top of the stems).
7. Cut out some colored flowers from the remaining cards; then take them with tweezers and glue them to the outer end of the stems.
8. Complete your Mother's Day greeting card with a pen or fine-tipped marker by writing a loving message.
9. Finally, close the two windows and slip a colored ribbon into the two holes you made earlier. The result is an original and colorful bunch of flowers that sprouts from your greeting message.

Jar with seedling

Decorating a home object to give it new life is certainly a simple job that can also be done from 3 years upwards. So why not convert an old pan from the pantry into something beautiful to give to mum? We suggest a green job for Mother's Day: the plant in the jar.

For the realization of this thought you can recycle something that is already within the walls of the house, such as a jar of yogurt or a round box of ice cream or even a can of tuna. A small terracotta pot of an old plant is also fine. Terracotta optimally absorbs the colors and small embellishments that you are going to apply: buttons, clothespins or drawings on paper.
The important thing is that the container is emptied well and washed.

Embellish the outside with a decorative ribbon and place a greasy plant in the center of the jar.
Alternatively, you can put seeds inside the earth containing seeds that will sprout thanks to the loving care of the mother; it can be a spice that will then be used in the kitchen or a colorful flower! Your special gift for her is ready.
