Mom for a day. 8 exciting and powerful photos of women who have just become mothers
What is the best day for a woman who has just become a mother? According to photographer Jenny Lewis, the first day, the 24 hours following the birth and the arrival of a new life.
In fact, the English photographer presented a collection of photos of mothers taken on the first day after giving birth, during the first 24 hours of the baby's life. The project, One day young, was born from Jenny's desire to show how childbirth can also be a calming, and powerful event. "I had two pregnancies", says the photographer, "and these photos would have had a very calming effect on me if I had looked at them before. I took these photos with the intention of showing uncontainable joy, strength, endurance, but also the serenity of these one day mothers "

The images and the book in which they are collected are the result of five years of research, contacts with mothers in the London neighborhood where Jenny lives, Hackney, and then social networks, associations of midwives, flyers and many meetings.
"Every woman is different and experiences her pregnancy differently," Jenny tells Buzzfeed, "but they all look like lionesses, and you can tell by the tender and proud gaze, and by the protective pose they take towards their children".
"Observing them during the first hours of motherhood was very exciting," she concludes.
