Cannes Film Festival: everything you need to know, from films in competition to the most anticipated stars
The 2014 Cannes Film Festival is about to arrive: the 67th edition will be held on the Croisette from 14 to 25 May, and here we tell you everything there is to know, from films in competition to major previews, from curiosities to star more awaited.
The film will open the event Grace of Monaco (watch the trailer here), with Nicole Kidman in the role of former actress Grace Kelly, who became princess of Monaco after her wedding with Ranieri (Tim Roth), trapped in a court life that she does not want, who makes a last attempt, shipwrecked , to return to the cinema after a proposal from Alfred Hitchcock. A sparkling start, amidst splendid period dresses and jewels, which promises to be repeated on the red carpet during the opening ceremony, with a Nicole Kidman much awaited by fans and photographers.
Going to the heart, here are the films that will be seen in the different sections, including competition, out of competition and the section A certain regard: among the films in competition stand out Maps to the stars, by David Cronenberg, with Julianne Moore and Robert Pattinson and Saint Laurent, the second film produced this year on the famous couturier, with Gaspard Ulliel and Léa Seydoux (here instead we interviewed the director of the first film on Saint Laurent, Jalil Lespert). The new directorial test of Michel Hazanavicius is also highly anticipated, who after the silent and award-winning film The Artist returns to direct his wife Berenice Bejo, with Annette Bening, in the dramatic story The Search. Also in competition, a sacred monster of French cinema, Jean Luc Godard, returns with Adieu au langage, which experiments with 3D cinema for the first time.
And then again: Clouds of Sils Maria by Olivier Assayas, with a stellar cast of actresses who play actresses who go to war, a Eve versus Eve in European style, with Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart and Chloë Grace Moretz. Then, much-loved directors return to Cannes, such as Mike Leigh and Ken Loach, Atom Egoyan and the Dardenne brothers, with a dramatic story starring Marion Cotillard, entitled Deux jours, une nuit. The only Italian in competition is Alice Rohrwacher, Alba's sister, who presents The wonders, starring Alba Rohwacher together with Monica Bellucci. Another Italian director in competition will be Asia Argento, who is back behind the camera and competing in the section A certain regard with Misunderstood, the story of a little girl who seeks love from her parents, with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Gabriel Garko.
Among the curiosities, certainly there is the poster of the 67th edition, which cannot fail to please Italy: for this year an image of Marcello Mastroianni from the film has been chosen 8 1/2 by Federico Fellini
