Since the spotlight of the "Eurovision Song Contest 2014 has been focused on Conchita Wurst, there has been nothing but talk of" her. "Why the quotes? It is easy to say: her first name is Thomas Neuwirth, but the world is getting to know him in the guise of a "charming drag queen with an extraordinary voice (really capable of making goosebumps"), who just led her to win the 2014 edition of the competition.
A draq queen who does not hide her dual nature and appears in mermaid dresses (showing, among other things, an amazing physique capable of angering any girl), with perfect make-up-wigs and a beard (naturally well-kept ). The reason for this choice of look? L "he explained during a press conference:"I created this bearded lady to show the world that we can do whatever we want". His is a hymn to freedom, but also to creativity: "I do it for fun, I experience it as an "artistic expression. It's just the illusion of being a woman, I don't want to change sex at all, because I actually love being a boy in my private life.”.
If on the one hand his play with sexual ambiguity has captured the attention of the public and the media, on the other hand it has annoyed some subjects, even on the upper floors, who do not take kindly to the freedom of customs. all: Vitaly Milonov, a Russian deputy with firm anti-gay positions, who even wrote a letter of protest indicating Conchita as an example of the spiritual decay of our days.
But when was Conchita "born"? In 2011, when Thomas decided to step aside and try again the road of the show in search of more success in the drag version. Conchita first participates in the reality (non-musical) of Austrian TV, then in 2012 tries the path of Eurovision stopping at the preselections. But she doesn't give up and two years later she goes much better: in fact she is the one representing Austria at the 2014 edition in Copenhagen with the piece Rise Like in Phoenix, giving a hard time to other competitors, including our Emma Marrone. It is no coincidence that it was she who won the 2014 edition, thanks to an extraordinary voice but above all to the opening message that Conchita brings with her, with all due respect to those who wanted to hinder her on the basis of her personal prejudices.
