How to make slime: 8 recipes and tips for making it at home
Slime, the modeling clay that children like so much, is very easy to make at home. It never loses its elasticity, and is an excellent stress reliever even for adults. You can find it for sale in toy stores and newsstands, but simple ingredients are enough to recreate it at home. In the wake of the #slimechallenge, here are the tips to follow to make it perfect! The origins of slime
It was the 1970s when Mattel put the slime on sale, under the name of slaim: it contained guar gum and was acid green in color. The success was incredible! So much so that in a few years games of the genre of every shape and color multiplied, the most famous of the new versions of slime is undoubtedly the Skifidol. But in recent years the fashion has been unleashed to do it at home to customize it in a thousand different ways!
Just choose a base, which can be glue or not, and then an activator, an element that makes the glue elastic and here you are really spoiled for choice: from detergent to bicarbonate, from liquid for contact lenses, all 'starch. To make the slime unique, you can then add an ingredient that makes it colorful, fragrant and super shiny: food dyes, soap, glitter and baby oil!

1 - Slime with Marseille soap

100 gr of Marseille soap flakes
1/2 liter of very hot water
50 gr of corn starch
food coloring (optional)
Method
Mix boiling water and soap flakes in a bowl: it is better not to involve the children in this first phase yet, as it is a bit dangerous. When the soap is dissolved, add the dye and mix well. Let it rest for an hour and then work it. with a whisk until it has a slimy and foamy consistency: if it is too soft, you can add a little more cornstarch.

2 - Slime with glue and talcum powder
One of the easiest and fastest recipes involves the use of vinyl glue. The borax in this recipe is replaced by simple talcum powder.
Ingrediants
150ml of vinyl glue
70g of talcum powder
1 teaspoon of food coloring
Method
First choose the glue, you can use a white or transparent vinyl glue. Mix dye of your favorite color and glue and then add the talcum powder. By mixing thoroughly, the dough will become dense and compact in a few minutes, ready to be worked with your hands until it reaches the perfect consistency.
3 - Fluffy slime
Fluffy slime is much loved and sought after. It has a spectacular consistency, even more compact, elastic and rubbery than the classic slime.
Ingrediants
1 cup of vinyl glue
food coloring
glitter
half a cup of shaving foam
1 teaspoon of baking soda
liquid shampoo
Method
To get it, mix the glue with the decorative elements (food coloring and glitter), then add the shaving cream and a teaspoon of baking soda. When the consistency of the slime becomes rubbery, add a little liquid shampoo to make it also fragrant!
4 - Super glitter slime
Also this recipe includes the vinyl glue and in addition liquid for contact lenses, bicarbonate and glitter. The slime you will get is particularly elastic and moldable, practically perfect.
Ingrediants
100 ml of transparent vinyl glue,
50 ml of water
20 ml of contact lens solution
1 teaspoon of baking soda
glitter
food coloring
Method
Mix the glue with the water in a large bowl. Then add the contact lens solution and food coloring. Finally add the baking soda and glitter while continuing to mix.
5 - Crunchy slime
The crunchy one is a variation of the super glitter slime. It consists of adding colored stones to the previous recipe instead of glitter to give the slime a "crunchy" consistency.

20 ml of contact lens solution
1 teaspoon of baking soda

6 - Slime without vinyl glue
Here is a simple and proven recipe for making a glue-free elastic slime with just two ingredients!
Ingrediants
140 gr of corn starch
250 ml of hot water
food coloring (optional)
Method
Mix cornstarch and hot water first with a spoon and then with your hands. Let it rest in the freezer for 10 minutes. If you prefer a colored slime, add a few drops of dye to the hot water before mixing it with the cornstarch.

7 - Slime with toothpaste
Another very easy slime that is made without glue is the one that uses gel toothpaste in combination with a fairly thick shampoo. The two ingredients, in equal parts, must be mixed carefully. When the mixture is ready, it is then put in the freezer for 10 minutes!

150ml gel toothpaste
150ml shampoo
or
1/3 of a tube of gel toothpaste
70g corn starch
1 pinch of salt
Method
If you don't have a suitable shampoo, you can also use corn starch and salt. Add the salt gel toothpaste, and then the corn starch, mixing until it reaches a compact consistency. Then work the dough with your hands until it becomes mouldable and very elastic.
8 - Edible slime
Yes, you read that correctly! With this recipe you can prepare an edible slime using condensed milk. It is a less elastic and slimy slime but certainly safer in case of small children.
Ingrediants
450 ml of condensed milk
20 gr of corn starch
food coloring (optional)
Method
Put the condensed milk on the stove, add the corn starch and let the dough thicken. Remove the gelatinous mixture from the heat, if you prefer you can add a food coloring and then let it cool carefully.
A few useful recommendations
Making slime with children is a fun experience: however, remember to supervise every step and never leave the children alone at the mercy of the ingredients! After making the slime, store it carefully, in an airtight container and in a cool place. If you leave it in the air in a couple of hours! Watch out for the carpets: the slime is very sticky and easily fills with dust and dirt, becoming unusable.
