CBD and Anxiety

A lot of research and clinical trials that are being carried out around the world when it comes to drugs that help fight off anxiety and its horrific effects. This also includes some unconventional therapies. One of these includes the possible use of CBD for anxiety. Cannabis is often notorious for its role with drug addicts in society due to which its sale is still not legalized in a number of countries in the world. However, in recent times, there have been a wide number of therapeutic uses of the substance as a medical product due to its inherent benefits.

What is CBD?

CBD or Cannabidiol is a natural derivative that is abundantly found in certain plants such as the Hemp. Notorious for its extensive role in drug abuse and its psychoactive effects, it accounts for nearly 45% of all the extracts from the plant, particularly from the stalk and seeds of the plant.  However, despite its controversial reputation, CBD is being increasingly adopted in the medical industry to produce unconventional ways to treat medical symptoms.

The hemp oil produced from the extract can be used to create products such as lotions and creams that are currently facing widespread adoption within the medical industry. The drugs are being increasingly utilized to alleviate some skin diseases and with psychological problems such as anxiety. Studies have shown that CBD drugs have shown positive results with patients when it comes to cases of anxiety particularly with individuals after a traumatic experience.

How Does CBD Work?

CBD is derived by infusing cannabis as one of its major ingredients. Cannabis is a drug which is known for its widespread psychological effects. CBD works by infusing this cannabis into an effective oil based along with herbs such as essential oils to create what could be called as a ‘CBD oil’. This CBD oil balances the levels of the psychological effects of Cannabidiol to ensure that the individual doesn’t experience the elevated effects that a cannabis abuser experiences, but retains the psychological effects of the substance.

This ensures that the person need not worry about the abuse of this oil as it’s medically inebriated and certified for the treatment of psychological symptoms. Studies have shown that trying out they show wonderful therapeutic effects in a level similar to modern day drugs for the treatment of psychological symptoms.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety may be commonly defined as the body’s natural response to stress. It is characterized by a feeling of apprehension primarily before an event that a person is worried about. An anxiety disorder occurs when the levels of stress and apprehension reach debilitating levels that they affect the daily routine of the person. If left untreated, these disorders can get worse often leading to the development of other mental disorders and even death.

Anxiety is, in fact, the most common emotional disorder and can be characterized by various types. It generally is characterized by a feeling of no control and is most commonly associated with bouts of panic attacks. It also occurs with other symptoms such as sleeplessness, irritability, and difficulty concentrating.

How does CBD help anxiety?

There has been a lot of research when it comes to the use of CBD as an effective treatment for anxiety. While the reviews continue to be mixed, there are some proven results when we consider CBD for anxiety and thus show positive results when it comes to the treatment of patients displaying extended signs of anxiety. A 2010 study revealed regarding CBD and anxiety showed signs of improvement in patients that displayed signs of Social Anxiety Disorder. It has been shown to modify blood flow patterns in the brain, particularly in regions associated with anxiety. It has also shown positive results when it comes to other forms of anxiety such as those associated with public speaking and particularly PTSD.

On a biological level, CBD holds a balanced amount of THC within its composition. THC plays a very excellent role when it comes to inhibiting stress in the individual to give them a feeling of calmness. This gives an anti-depressant action to the drug. CBD does this by acting upon the levels of the endocannabinoid system within the body. This system is responsible for maintaining the homeostasis of the body and controls the effects of mood, sleep, and memory. It thus plays a very important role when it comes to the regulation of stress within an individual.  CBD works here by acting upon it and naturally regulating the metabolism of endocannabinoids within the body, thereby inhibiting stress.

CBD also acts upon neurotransmitter molecules responsible for the transfer of signals pertaining to stress between neurons. This neurotransmitter molecule determines the response of the body whilst in stress. CBD works by regulating the activity of this molecule to ensure that the body doesn’t shut down during a panic attack.

The most common CBD drug that is utilized for the treatment of anxiety is CBD oil. These can be added as a supplement to the person’s food or are available as a sublingual tablet which ensures a fast action. It also does not come without any odor that makes it really ideal for anxiety treatment.
